Nicaragua, Veterans Day Weekend 2017

November 8-12, 2017



Day 1: Wednesday, November 8
Departure from the United States. Evening arrival at the International Airport in Managua and transfer to your hotel.

Day 2: Thursday, November 9
A morning city tour of the capital city, Managua, will introduce you to the culture and history of Nicaragua. Visit the Park of Peace and enjoy the views at the highest point of the city, La Loma de Tiscapa, where both the old and new parts of the city can be observed. Continue to Masaya Volcano National Park, Nicaragua’s first, established in 1979. Next head onward to Granada, stopping at the View Point of Catarina, which is one of the highest hills surrounding the Apoyo Lagoon with a superb view. You’ll also stop at the Indian craft market in Masaya. Arrive in Granada and enjoy dinner tonight with ACIS. (B, D)

Day 3: Friday, November 10
The oldest colonial city in Central America, Granada was founded by the Spanish conqueror, Don Francisco Hernandez de Cordoba, in 1524. The city’s beautiful architecture and the narrow cobbled streets will take you back in time. Today enjoy a boat tour of Granada’s famous Isletas, a chain of inhabited islands just off the shore of Lake Nicaragua which are the remnants of ancient volcanic activity. Meet up with the group for dinner tonight. (B, D)

Day 4: Saturday, November 11
Depart this morning for Mombacho Volcano, known as a living sanctuary of orchids. More than 45 of the 93 species of orchids in Nicaragua can be found in this preserve. Hike along the trails in the cloud forest to discover the wildlife and plants of the Mombacho Volcano Natural Reserve. Return to Granada where you’ll enjoy a farewell dinner in this quaint city. Day 5: Sunday, November 12
Transfer from the hotel in Granada to the International Airport in Managua for your return home.
