What is the Travel is Education Scholarship Contest?
The Travel is Education Scholarship competition offers both teachers and students the chance to be rewarded for their creative expression and interest in the world. ACIS Travel Scholarships will be awarded in three categories: artwork, photography and writing.
Who is eligible?
The 2020 contest is open to those traveling with ACIS between Oct. 15, 2019 and Oct. 14, 2020.
How do I enter?
Entries must include a completed Sponsor Application Form and the Student Scholarship Entry Form. Each student may submit only one entry. Sponsors may submit entries from as many students as they wish. Any incomplete or unsigned Sponsor Application Forms or Student Scholarship Entry Forms will not be accepted. The 2020 Scholarship Contest deadline is January 31, 2020 (postmark).
Where do I send my entry?
Send your entry, with a completed Sponsor Application Form and the Student Scholarship Entry Form to: ACIS Travel is Education Scholarship 343 Congress Street, Suite 3100 Boston, MA 02210.
What are the artwork guidelines?
All two-dimensional media are acceptable, including paintings, drawings and collages. Work should not be copied from photos, unless the student has taken the photograph personally or altered the image significantly from the photograph. Artwork may be no larger than 20 inches in any direction. We will accept either original artwork or reproductions (i.e. color photocopies or black and white copies of drawings). ACIS strongly encourages submitting color copies rather than original artwork. No slides or electronic files will be accepted. Entries cannot be returned.
What are the photography guidelines?
Photos should reflect a student's own experience and imagination. Photos may be no larger than 20 inches in any direction. We will accept either color or black and white photos. No slides or electronic files will be accepted. Entries cannot be returned. Please include the following information about your photo: title, location, how the photo relates to the theme.
What are the writing guidelines?
Writing pieces must be typed and under one page in length. Both prose (creative and non-fiction) and poetry are acceptable; however, all entries will be judged from the same pool. No electronic files will be accepted. Entries cannot be returned.
How are the entries judged?
Entries will be judged on creativity and inventiveness in expressing an idea related to the theme. All judges' decisions will be final.
What is a sponsoring teacher?
All students entering the scholarship contest must be sponsored by the teacher leading their ACIS tour (no assistant group leaders please). All teachers sponsoring a winner or runner-up will be rewarded with a special $250 ACIS Travel Scholarship Certificate, that they may give to a deserving student of their choice.
What is an ACIS Travel Scholarship Certificate?
ACIS Travel Scholarship Certificates are scholarships that may be used toward any ACIS program. Winners may deduct their scholarship prize from their ACIS trip fee.
When will the winners be announced?
Awards for the 2020 Contest will be announced (and posted online) by the end of February 2020. Winners will be sent written notification along with their ACIS Travel Scholarship Certificates. Only winning entrants will be contacted.
