Perfect your Spanish in between cultural excursions and getting to know your Guatemalan host family.

DAY 1: Antigua

Depart the USA on Sunday and arrive in Guatemala City. Transfer to Antigua and meet your host family. All the host families live within walking distance of the school and offer full room and board.

Private classes (one on one) for 6 hours daily at the oldest of the Spanish language schools in Antigua and the only school which teaches Spanish and also various Mayan languages.

Students will have shared rooms. All meals will be taken with your host families, except your arrival day dinner which will be arranged at a restaurant.

DAY 2: Antigua

Attend morning and early afternoon class as you begin your Spanish language study experience at the language school. Afterwards enjoy a visit to Museo del Café to enjoy a cup of coffee, yes, but also to learn more about the science and art of coffee roasting as well as how the trade has affected Guatemala. Overnight with host families.

DAY 3: Antigua

Attend morning and early afternoon language class at the language school. In the afternoon you will visit the Valhalla Macadamia Nut Farm to learn more about how this popular Hawaiian treat is now being farmed in Guatemala. We will also check out the nearby village of San Antonio. Overnight with host families.

DAY 4: Antigua

Attend morning and early afternoon language class at the language class. During afternoon class each teacher-student combination will do a walking tour of Antigua's colonial past. Overnight with host families.

DAY 5: Antigua

Attend morning and early afternoon language class at the language school. The afternoon is free to explore the sites of Antigua on your own. Overnight with host families.

DAY 6: Antigua

Attend morning and early afternoon language class at the language class. Enjoy an afternoon visit to Ciudad Vieja, the site where the second capital of the Kingdom of Guatemala was founded. In 1541, it was destroyed by volcanic eruptions that engulfed the town. The original church was excavated intact. Overnight with host families.

DAY 7: Antigua

Today there is a full day excursion to Chichicastenango and Panajachel. Chichicastenango, located at a higher elevation, is famous for unique indigenous religious ceremonies and the largest open-air market in Central America. Continue to Panajachel in the shores of the beautiful and scenic Lake Atitlan, which is dramatically surrounded by three volcanoes. Overnight with host families.

DAY 8: Departure

Transfer to the airport in Guatemala City for your flight back to the USA.
