In 79 AD, the forces of nature overwhelmed the Roman city of Pompeii. The massive eruption of Mt. Vesuvius showered dust and lava over the entire Bay of Naples area. Unlike most of the surrounding towns that were engulfed by mudflow, dust and ashes covered Pompeii, preserving the city to such an extent that it is now a window into ancient Roman life. A blacksmith is even preserved shoeing a horse! Enjoy a guided tour through the streets, seeing shops, Greek-style temples, baths, houses and gardens that have remained unchanged for nearly 2,000 years. Upon leaving Pompeii see Mt. Vesuvius up close. Drive near the rim of the massive volcano and climb to the peak to peer into the astounding crater. Lunch is included on this excursion. Group Rate: $175. (Optional excursions are priced based on full group participation.)
