Q. Who can earn Professional Development Units?
A. All teachers leading or acting as an assistant on an ACIS tour can earn professional development units.
A. Group leaders may earn up to three PDUs per ACIS tour. Each credit requires fifteen touring hours. Most tours include well over 45 touring hours.
A. A touring hour is an hour spent participating in an educational activity that acquaints you with the culture of the place you are visiting. Sightseeing, visiting museums and attending theater performances are all acceptable activities. A good question to ask yourself when determining if your activity qualifies as a touring hour is, “Will this activity enhance my knowledge, skills, curriculum or classroom environment for years to come?”
Q. How do I fill out the Registration Form?
A. Please read the complete instructions on how to fill out the Registration Form.
Q. Where do I send the Registration Form?
A. Please send the completed registration form and payment (if applicable) to:
ACIS PDU Program
343 Congress Street, Suite 3100
Boston, MA 02210
A. Professional development units cost $93 each. Checks should be made out to the University of the Pacific.
Q. When will I receive the credit?
A. The University of the Pacific will send you your grade on University letterhead about one week after you submit your reflection page and activity log. You will also receive a computerized grade from the Registrar about four to six weeks after that. A formal transcript can take anywhere from five to six weeks to receive after you have completed your work.
It is your responsibility to check with your school district prior to registration, to find out whether or not they require the grade report or the embossed, sealed report. With this knowledge you can plan ahead to submit your registration and receive three required grade statement when needed. Please note: there are no refunds.
Q. What do I do if I need a formal, embossed, sealed transcript?
A. Should you need a formal, embossed, sealed transcript, please allow about six weeks from the time you submit your activity log and reflection page. A form to request the transcript will be mailed to you in the same envelope as your computerized grade from the Registrar.
Requests should be in writing and include the following:
- Name and address
- Phone number
- Social security number
- a personal check of $4 per copy made payable to the University of the Pacific
- A copy of any recent grade reports
- The course title and number
- The address(es) to which you wish the transcripts mailed, if different from your home address.
A. A reflection page is a brief one to two paragraph essay reflecting on your ACIS tour and how your experiences abroad will help you in the classroom.
Q. Where do I send the reflection page and activity log?
