Day 2: Friday, January 16
Arrive in Prague and enjoy a free day. Please note, transfer from the airport to your hotel is not provided. Join ACIS tonight for a Welcome Reception in the hotel.
Day 3: Saturday, January 17
See the sights of Prague today on a city sightseeing tour. Take a guided tour of the Hradcany Castle complex, including the cathedral, the fourteenth Century Charles Bridge, and the architectural artistry of Mala Strana. Enjoy free time to stroll down the Golden Lane, once a favorite of alchemists, or explore the Prague Ghetto, which contains Europe's oldest Jewish cemetery. This evening is free to explore at your leisure.
Day 4: Sunday, January 18
Join ACIS on one of the two excursions and visit either the picturesque medieval town of Kutna Hora or Pilsen, a cultural and economic centre of the West Bohemia and home to Czech beer.
In the 13th century, silver was discovered in Kutna Hora and a few decades later the royal mint was established. The town became famous for producing the Prague Groschen coins, which were also used elsewhere in Europe at the time, and became the second most important town in the Kingdom of Bohemia. The sights you will see include the gothic Cathedral of Saint Barbora, the Italian Court and the famous Sedlec Ossuary, a unique chapel decorated with approximately 40,000 human skeletons artistically arranged to form its decorations and furnishings.
Beer has been brewed in Plzen since time immemorial and the first written records about beer brewing here are associated with the very foundation of the town of Plzen. The best-known Czech beer, Pilsner Urquell, is still brewed here to this day. After our tour of the Brewery Museum (the oldest museum of its kind in the world) presenting collections on trades, guilds and beer brewing history you will make a walk to the historic city center for lunch on your own at the Na Splice Brewery restaurant or one of the traditional restaurants on the Square of the Republic, the largest Gothic square in Bohemia. During the afternoon tour of the Pilsner Urquell Brewery, you will be shown around the authentic places where this renowned beer has been brewed for ages and will get a chance to sample the freshly made product.
Tonight, enjoy a farewell dinner.
Day 5: Monday, January 19
Enjoy your last morning for departure back to the United States. Please note, transfer from your hotel to the airport is not included.
