We see how travel changes people's lives on a daily basis. These changes—however small, however grand—motivate us as a unit and as individuals to continue to reach out. We're proud to acknowledge the staff members and ACIS travelers who repeatedly donate their time and resources to helping people and causes around the globe.

ACIS Holds 2nd Annual Bike to Work Day

"Why drive to work then spend an hour at the gym when you can get your workout en route to the office?" comments tour consultant, Stephanie Uzureau. Many ACIS staff members agree, which is why they choose to put the non-gas guzzling pedal to the medal and bike to work each day.

On May 15th, ACIS held its second annual "Bike to Work Day," sponsored by the ACIS Green Team, to honor those employees who cycle to work. From Boston to Chicago, staffers strapped on their helmets for group photos and spent some time chatting about what keeps them motivated to cycle. "At the end of the day, it relieves stress," remarks tour consultant, Julie Fratarcangeli, "Also, you begin to develop a deeper appreciation for your city and surroundings."

Katie Weimann and Liz Tyrrell from the Chicago office both agree that exercise is a major incentive, but Katie also notes, "Public transportation can be very crowded during rush hour. I like to spend time outside and get to work quickly!"

ACIS receptionist in Boston, Susi Ecker, raves about how accommodating the company is for cycling employees because the office is equipped with a shower and provides a place to store bike clothes and other equipment. When asked what keeps her motivated, she had this to say: "It's an addiction. On the days I don't bike to work [due to weather], I feel like there's something missing. I think about it all day."

Thanks to all who participated in this year's event. Also, a special thanks goes to the ACIS Green Team for their active support and acknowledgement of those who make an extra effort to ensure a brighter and greener future. Happy trails!

Costa Rica Trip Helps Fund Local Scholarship

While you explore the Central American jewel on your ACIS Aventura Cultural tour, you can feel better knowing that your trip is helping to sponsor a full year's scholarship for a local low-income student. The scholarship program is run through the Tirimbina Rainforest Center and works with low-income students in grades 7-11 at La Virgen High School in the Sarapiqui area. The scholarship includes everything from lunch during school hours to uniforms and textbooks for the year.

Some groups will even have the opportunity to visit the La Virgen High School and participate in an activity with the local students. In addition, you'll receive a letter prior to departure about the student you're sponsoring, along with progress reports throughout the school year.

So far this year, over 130 students have traveled with ACIS on this special itinerary, resulting in the sponsorship of 10 Costa Rican high school students.
